Richard Feynman had an odd experience teaching in Brazil, his students would often ignore assignments or say they were beneath them. (he later found out it was because they couldn’t work through the problems).
His students copied lecture phrasing and memorized prompts which had nothing to do with understanding. It’s a type of passive learning (which is a myth) when you don’t have any creative application to engage with the material. See Understanding requires effortful engagement. The students were able to progress, take tests, and demonstrate (regurgitate) information in an extremely narrow space. They couldn’t transfer their learning into any meaningful or real applications. It’s like Same pattern; different name but they can’t figure out the damn pattern except under one exact name and description of said concept.
