Reverse engineer your regrets
When your eyes are open to The Existential Frame, it may appear as if you are the designer and architect of your life. You aren’t (see. The gardener and the architect). Choosing what values we live for is also a decision of what we won’t see as clearly. It’s much harder to imagine what great goods may come out of each path in life, so flip it.
Reverse engineering your regrets might look like this, “Of all the things I could see myself doing, what is the one thing I could never live with having NOT done?”
This extreme cutting down of the accessories of the lives you might live gets you down to the bare bones. It re-focuses you, you’re only able to pursue one of these things. It minimizes choice so you can maximize mastery over one life.
