The problem with linear learning
For small, atomic notes I can see that a mini essay or a few sentences could cover the nuance of the topic best.
The way mastery level information is stored in our heads is quite different, we can evaluate and navigate between the interconnected knowledge within the domain. We can jump in at any point and recognize the relevance along with the relational context.
Lets say the master now wants to teach this topic.
The flow of information is forced into linear communication, be that a book, essay, or conversation to teach. The content must be presented linearly, with a beginning and working towards a conclusion.
In this way, the student is forming their own ‘map’ and connecting the ideas on their own.
However the learners map is going to differ from how the master decided to present their information. The learners must form their own understanding and evaluation of the associations of the ideas, as well as connect back to their experience and metaphors they understand.
This is why we see in How to absorb a book the systemic skim is best because you prime information and get a rough view of how the information is going to relate to each other.
Also, why it’s a high level technique to use the The Blank Sheet Method and use Mindmapping.
